If you can’t donate, reblog. Spread the word because this story isn’t the only one like this and it is disproportionately happening to POC.
Landlords have bills to pay as well, but they should be standing shoulder to shoulder with their tenets against the larger power. The banks are the problem and the government is backing them up instead of having the backs of the citizens that vote them into power.
Your mom and aunts aren’t on tumblr. Please warn them about this as well.
[Image description: Two smartphone screenshots of a Facebook post by a person named Sheila Toll posted 2 Sep. It is black text on a white background and the post is public. The post reads:
I am a Family Doctor and I want to keep a promise made to a patient.
Julie was a healthy, post-menopausal woman in my care who came in for a periodic health examination. One of my routine questions, in what is called the “Review of Systems”, was to ask if she had experienced any vaginal bleeding.
She said “No” but then laughed and added, “Other than when my period came back for a few months last year”.
All health care professional are taught early on that ‘vaginal bleeding in a post-menopausal woman is Cancer of the Uterus until proven otherwise’. This comment by Julie was, therefore, a red flag (no pun intended) prompting further questions, an examination and an ultrasound of her pelvis.
Julie was surprised to see me so concerned, especially since the symptoms had not recurred over many months.
Sure enough, a pelvic ultrasound and tissue sampling confirmed Cancer of the Uterus.
Julie underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy. She is now healthy, cancer-free and is expected to stay that way.
After all this was done, Julie sat ME down for a talk. She told me she’d had no idea a ‘short return’ of her period after menopause was a danger signal. Furthermore, she addressed the topic with friends over coffee and discovered that, out of 20 women, NONE of them knew this symptom was abnormal! She admonished me to “Tell women this! Don’t assume we know it!”
From that day on, I have kept Julie’s advice in mind when talking with post-menopausal patients. But recently my wife suggested that I should take this to a wider audience.
So, Julie, this is for you:
If you are a post-menopausal woman and your period ‘comes back’ or you have even one episode of vaginal bleeding, TELL A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL and insist on having it investigated!
Wishing you all good health and long lives. End image description.]
Has anyone noticed that Megan thee Stallion is one of the biggest musicians out and there was very little news or social media coverage on her being shot and shot at multiple times…not even a single lil “thoughts and prayers” from any of the tiktokers that use her music daily or the brands still preaching of a Hot Girl Summer..across cultures, everyone let Megan’s identity and likeness impact them and across cultures, no one gave a single fuck about that woman. It’s so saddening. like I hope you all understand that at best, black women’s fame = them being a commodity, not genuine care. Like god imagine if someone like Ariana was shot by an ex/friend/anyone?? We’d hear about it for weeks and yet Megan barely got a drip of attention. And the attention she did get? Jokes. Thousands and thousands of jokes. It’s easier to find tweets joking about the situation or being a doctor checking out her ass as opposed to tweets of any concern, and there’s many tweets dismissing that little roach that shot her. It’s extremely disturbing and exactly what we mean when we say black women are seen as bottom of the barrel on this planet, not given a single fuck about (but taken from until they have nothing left ofc)
these psycho fucking lawyers who live down the street from st louis mayor Lyda Krewson just pointed weapons at hundreds of protestors including a long time friend of mine as they walked past on the way to the mayor’s house (June 28, 2020)
The protesters were there in the first place because the mayor (Lyda Krewson) read the full names and addresses of those who wrote her letters about ending police brutality aloud in public. Since the mayor and her supporters don’t feel this is inciting violence, I guess this couple will be fine with people knowing their names are Mark and Patricia McCloskey and they live at 1 Portland Place. I’m sure they also won’t mind if you call the McCloskey Law Firm where they work as personal injury scumsuckers at (314)-721-4000, toll free at (800)-659-6443. Being people who care about the law, I’m sure they also won’t mind if you call 573-635-7400 to file a Missouri bar complaint against them for blatant brandishing and assault.
People in Aurora, CO peacefully protesting the murder of Elijah McClain. They are sitting in the grass literally listening to violins being played in his honor. And the fucking Gestapo is unleashed! WTF!!
Why are the police militarized against tax paying citizens!! White men with guns can storm a Government building in Michigan and THEY don’t get this sort of treatment!?! And I don’t want to hear shit about looting & rioting because CLEARLY that is not what’s going on here.
I say again THIS IS NOT A DEMOCRACY! This is a corporate-run plantation where we are expected to consume and comply only.
Activism is not one and done. Please continue to provide resources. Continue to sign petitions and attend protests. Activism is a long and continues fight for justice that will never end. There will always be something that needs to change and we need to be the ones to drive that change. So please, I’m begging you, when your dash becomes “normal” again and the George Floyd posts begin to fade, continue to fight. This battle doesn’t end once the media turns away, so keep screaming, keep shouting at the top of your lungs, please continue to fight for justice.
Just had my nth conversation with someone about mask-wearing today - yet another well-intentioned moron who was like
‘But the virus is gone now’ (it isn’t)
‘But the mask is uncomfortable’ (ventilators are worse)
‘But you’re young, you won’t die’ (having this thing could impact my health for decades to come + it’s my responsability to protect those who’re more vulnerable than I am because that’s how society works)
‘But are you going to live in fear for the rest of your life’ (taking concrete safety measures actually helps me feel more in control and less worried)
‘But are you going to give up everything and stay inside like a rat’ (no, but I’m definitely going to decide what’s worth risking my health for, and shopping for bread rolls is not very high on my list of literally-to-die-for activities)
‘But what if they never find a vaccine’ (then we’ll get used to the situation just like we got used to a thousand other things like seat belts, bike helmets, and increasingly weird true crime podcasts).
I know it’s tiring to have people call you paranoid all the time - but you’re right and they’re wrong. Check the news, keep a safe distance from others whenever possible and keep wearing your mask!
